Obi Must Get Security Clearance to Visit Edo –Gov Okpebholo

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has said Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, must obtain security clearance before making further visits to the state. This comes after Obi’s recent visit to Benin City on July 7, where he donated ₦15 million to St. Philomena Hospital School of Nursing Sciences to support ongoing projects.

The governor linked the visit to a rise in violent incidents, including the killing of three people shortly after Obi’s departure. According to the state government, the timing of the visit raised concerns about security and the motives behind such donations, especially in light of Obi’s previous public image.

The announcement was made during a political gathering where the All Progressives Congress (APC) welcomed Marcus Onobun, the last remaining opposition federal lawmaker in the state. With Onobun’s defection, the APC now holds all federal legislative positions in Edo, solidifying its dominance.

The state government maintains that future political visits by opposition figures will require prior notification and approval to ensure the safety and stability of Edo.
