NYSC Responds to Claims by Corps Member Over Certificate Withholding

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has responded to allegations from Lagos corps member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye, who claimed that her discharge certificate was withheld in retaliation for her criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s government. In a statement, the NYSC clarified that the decision to extend her service by two months was purely administrative, as she failed to meet the required clearance obligations, and was not politically motivated.

Uguamaye, who had earlier criticized the administration in a viral TikTok video, accused her Local Government Inspector of refusing to clear her for April, despite her presence. She also claimed that her file was seized and she was told she would not receive her certificate for missing clearance, which she denies.

The NYSC firmly denied any political bias, stating that similar actions have been taken against other corps members for not fulfilling clearance requirements. The scheme emphasized that such measures are applied uniformly, regardless of political views.
