NYSC Reacts to Assault of Corps Member in Anambra
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has condemned an attack on a female Corps Member by a vigilante group in Oba, Idemili South, Anambra State. In a statement, the scheme said the incident was being investigated by the Nigeria Police and that internal support was being provided to the victim.
The NYSC said measures are underway to ensure the Corps Member receives both psychological and administrative assistance. It also said the scheme remains committed to the safety of all its members across the country.
Following a viral video of the incident, former Corps Members have spoken about similar experiences in Anambra. One individual who served in Onitsha North said he frequently encountered hostility from local security groups during his service year.
The Anambra State Government has acknowledged the incident and announced steps toward accountability. Public reaction continues to focus on the need for oversight of local vigilante operations and better protection for Corps Members.
