No Sex, No Cooking -Delta Women Protest Herdsmen Attacks

Women in the Oviri Olomu community of Delta State have launched a bold protest against the ongoing violence by suspected armed herdsmen, vowing to withhold domestic and marital duties until security improves. The women, angered by years of unchecked rape, destruction, and threats to their lives, staged a demonstration at the Ughelli Area Police Command, demanding urgent government intervention.

The protesters declared a sex strike and suspended all cooking and market activities, stating that the community could no longer endure the trauma inflicted by herders. “We will not return to our homes or resume our duties until our land is safe again,” a woman leader asserted.

Community leaders including Emmanuel George and Austin Etata accused the herdsmen of claiming ownership of their lands, harassing women, and turning the community into a hotbed of kidnapping and rape. In response, the Divisional Police Officer assured them their concerns would be addressed and promised a peace meeting involving Fulani and community leaders.
