Jonathan Considers 2027 Comeback to Challenge Tinubu
Former President Goodluck Jonathan is reportedly preparing to contest the 2027 presidential election against incumbent President Bola Tinubu, according to a close political ally. The ally, a senior member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), revealed that Jonathan has agreed to run after consultations with key national figures and stakeholders.
The push for Jonathan’s return is driven by a belief among some northern and southern elders that his leadership once stabilized Nigeria’s economy and polity. His potential candidacy is also seen as a strategic move to allow power to shift back to the north after a single four-year term.
Jonathan has already met with influential figures like former military president Ibrahim Babangida and is now engaging stakeholders in the South-South region. Though details remain under wraps, insiders say the former president’s support base is solidifying ahead of a formal campaign launch.
