NNPCL Boss Raises Alarm Over Threats to His Life and Staff
The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, has alleged that his life and that of the company’s management team are under serious threat. He linked the threats to reforms he has introduced in the oil and gas sector, which he said are in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to revive Nigeria’s moribund refineries.
Ojulari made the disclosure on Thursday while receiving a delegation from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), led by its president, Comrade Festus Osifo, at the NNPCL headquarters in Abuja. He claimed that certain powerful interests opposed to the reforms were plotting to remove him from office.
“Despite the threats to my life and the lives of some management staff, I am determined to ensure that the refineries work effectively,” he said, assuring that efforts to restore the nation’s refineries to full operation remain on track. He revealed that the management is exploring the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) operational model as part of the revival plan.
Responding to concerns raised by PENGASSAN on the stability of the sector, Ojulari said he remained resolute in delivering on the mandate. He acknowledged that he is not a politician but emphasized his commitment to learning and driving development, even in the face of threats.
