NCAA to Name and Shame Airlines Over Flight Delays, Non-Compliance
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced it will begin publicly identifying airlines that repeatedly fail to follow passenger protection rules, especially in cases of flight delays and cancellations.
The agency announced the new enforcement strategy on Monday, saying it comes in response to rising complaints and airport incidents involving stranded travellers. Passengers left without support during night hours between 10:00pm and 4:00am are entitled to hotel accommodation, the authority said.
In a post shared online, NCAA spokesman Michael Achimugu said airline staff frequently abandon terminals during disruptions, leaving aviation officials to manage agitated passengers alone. He warned that such behaviour would no longer be tolerated.
The regulator said it would apply the “fullest measures possible” in cases of serious infractions and that the naming-and-shaming policy would begin immediately, following directives from the federal government and the minister of aviation.
