NAFDAC Warns Against Fake Postinor-2 in Nigerian Markets

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised alarm over fake batches of Postinor-2, a popular emergency contraceptive pill, now circulating in Nigeria.

The counterfeit products came to light after the Society for Family Health, the authorised importer, confirmed it had no hand in the consignments. Investigators found glaring errors on the packs, including “Veify” instead of “Verify” and “Distnibuted in Nigeria” instead of “Distributed in Nigeria.”

Two falsified versions have been identified: Type 1, Batch T36184B (August 2024 – August 2028), and Type 2, Batch 332 (March 2023 – February 2027). NAFDAC warned that the pills may contain harmful ingredients or wrong dosages, urging consumers to purchase only from licensed pharmacies.
