Man Beaten in Warri For Allegedly Stealing Mobile Phone
A suspect identified as Precious Ibekwe, was recently apprehended by residents of Ejewhor Street in Okumagba Layout, Warri, Delta State, after being accused of involvement in a theft.
The residents, visibly enraged, reportedly gave Ibekwe a severe beating, believing he was part of a group responsible for stealing a mobile phone from one of their neighbors. Items found in Ibekwe’s possession, including a palm slipper, large spanner, DVD player, measuring tape, and hammer, only fueled the suspicions of residents.
However, when asked, Ibekwe denied the theft accusations. He maintained that he had done nothing wrong, explaining that he had merely picked up the palm slippers that belonged to someone else he claimed was being chased by residents. He further clarified that at the time, he had no idea the individual was involved in stealing a mobile phone until he was confronted by the residents, who saw him with the slippers.
Ibekwe also mentioned that while he knew where the suspected thief was hiding, he had no idea where the individual lived. Despite his defense, the angry community members remained unconvinced, leaving the situation unresolved.
