Maj.-Gen. Paul Omu Buried with Full Military Honours in Delta State

The remains of former Military Governor of the defunct South-Eastern State, Major-General Paul Ufuoma Omu (rtd.), were laid to rest on Saturday in his hometown of Igbide, Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State. The funeral drew senior military officers, political leaders, and traditional rulers who gathered to honour the late elder statesman.

At the funeral service held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Archbishop Cyril Odutemu and other clerics reflected on Omu’s life of integrity, devotion to national service, and deep commitment to the Isoko Nation. A high-powered delegation from the Delta State Government attended, including Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Governors James Ibori and Ifeanyi Okowa, and other notable leaders.

Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Major-General Oluwafemi Williams praised Omu for his professionalism and unwavering dedication throughout his military career. The interment featured full military rites, including a ceremonial guard, a slow march, presentation of the national flag to the family, and a 21-gun salute in honour of the retired General.

Family members and community leaders recalled Omu as a humble mentor, philanthropist, and a pillar of support to development efforts in Isoko land. He is survived by his wife, Senator Stella Omu, children, grandchildren, and an extended family.
