Keyamo Lifts Airline Bans on Ibom Air Passenger and KWAM 1
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced the withdrawal of criminal complaints and lifting of flight bans in two recent cases of passenger misconduct, following consultations with key industry stakeholders. He said the decisions were taken after the individuals involved showed remorse and appeals were made by well-meaning Nigerians, noting they were based on compassionate grounds rather than political sentiment.
In the Ibom Air case of August 10, 2025, involving Ms. Comfort Emmanson, the airline agreed to withdraw its complaint, allowing police to process her release from Kirikiri Prisons this week. The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) also accepted the minister’s appeal to lift her lifetime flight ban, with full details to be announced soon.
Similarly, in the ValueJet case involving music star Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (KWAM 1), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) reduced his flight ban to one month and dropped its criminal complaint. The minister revealed plans for KWAM 1 to serve as an ambassador for proper airport conduct. ValueJet pilots Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba will have their licences restored after a one-month suspension and mandatory professional re-appraisal.
Keyamo also directed aviation and related agencies to hold a retreat next week to retrain security personnel on de-escalating tense situations with disruptive passengers. He warned that while these clemencies close the matter, the government remains firm on enforcing aviation safety and security protocols going forward.
