Julius Berger On Track to Deliver Warri-Effurun Flyovers on Schedule

Construction company, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc is pushing ahead with the multi-billion-naira Warri-Effurun Flyovers and Roads project, with progress reported across multiple sites despite challenging weather conditions.

The infrastructure initiative, awarded in October 2023 by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, includes the construction of three major flyovers, a cloverleaf interchange, pedestrian bridges, and major road expansions aimed at transforming traffic flow in Warri and its environs.

Governor Oborevwori had, during the contract signing, expressed full confidence in Julius Berger’s ability to meet the 30-month delivery timeline. His choice of the firm was based on its strong reputation and experience in executing complex road projects in riverine regions, similar to the Delta terrain.

The project features a flyover at the DSC roundabout and another at PTI junction both along the Effurun/Patani East-West Highway in Uvwie Local Government Area. A third flyover, stretching from Enerhen Junction, Effurun to Marine Gate in Warri South, is also underway.

As of last month, The DSC flyover is nearing 81.6% completion, the PTI junction flyover stands at 68%, and the Enerhen Junction section is 32.41% complete, slowed initially by delays in relocating high-tension power lines.

Project Manager Thomas Haug clarified that the delay at Enerhen was due to power infrastructure issues, not construction setbacks. With those resolved, work on that section is now progressing steadily.

Despite heavy rains, Julius Berger crews remain active on all fronts from the launching of beams to the laying of stormwater drainages and the expansion of existing roadways. Diversion roads, pipeline crossings, and other critical elements are in various stages of development. Visible progress can be seen stretching from the DSC junction through Effurun, as the team works to stay on track for timely delivery.

The cooperation of host communities has been vital to keeping the project moving forward. According to site reports, local support has helped ease operations and maintain safety across the expansive construction zones.

With a year to go, Julius Berger and Delta State government are confident the infrastructure upgrade is on track and will ease traffic as well as boost connectivity.
