Joel-Onowakpo Declares Second Term Bid for Delta South Senate
Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas has formally declared his intention to seek a second term representing Delta South Senatorial District. The announcement was made on Friday at Oleh Township Stadium in Oleh, where he addressed supporters and party stakeholders, highlighting his record in office and outlining his plans for continued service.
During his speech, the senator commended Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his leadership and role in strengthening the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. He noted that the state’s alignment with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda has fostered unity and positioned the APC as a strong political force in Delta. He also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the Nigerian Maritime University in Okerenkoko, calling it a significant step toward regional development.
Reflecting on his time in the Senate since June 2023, Thomas pointed to his legislative achievements, including the sponsorship of eight bills, four of which have passed both chambers of the National Assembly, with one already signed into law. He added that his office has implemented empowerment programmes benefiting over 1,500 constituents and facilitated vocational training for more than 500 people, alongside job placements and scholarship awards.
The lawmaker admitted to facing initial challenges as a first-time senator and appealed for understanding from constituents where he may have fallen short. He pledged to build on his experience to deliver more impactful legislation, infrastructure, and economic opportunities, while reaffirming his support for the re-election of President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori.
