It’s Your Fault If You Can’t Take Part in NYSC -JAMB Tells HND Graduates
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has responded to recent criticism from Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates who claim they were prevented from participating in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The HND graduates alleged that JAMB was responsible for their exclusion from the mandatory national service program.
In a statement released on September 2, JAMB spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin clarified that many of these students were admitted into their National Diploma (ND) programs without JAMB’s knowledge. According him, JAMB has no role in the admission process for HND candidates. “JAMB is not involved in, nor does it have authority or control over, the admissions process for HND programs.” He noted.
It was gathered that the issue stems from candidates who completed a full-time HND program but were disqualified from NYSC due to having pursued their Ordinary National Diploma (OND) on a part-time basis.
JAMB reiterated its responsibility for setting matriculation requirements and conducting exams for undergraduate admissions, including National Diploma and Nigerian Certificate in Education courses. However, the Board stressed that it is not responsible for any examination or selection processes related to postgraduate or other courses offered by tertiary institutions.
JAMB advised the public to disregard the graduates’ allegations, stating that they have “crossed the lines of criminality.”
