Isoko Community Raises Alarm Over Alleged Herdsmen Invasion
Residents of Umeh community in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State are reportedly living in fear following claims that suspected herdsmen have taken over surrounding bushes and launched attacks on locals.
The alarm was raised by community leader Akpovienehe Duncan Afahakor, who alleged that armed individuals now block access to farmlands and have targeted motorcycle riders using the Umeh bridge.
He further claimed that a youth was recently shot in the leg during one of the attacks, forcing farmers to abandon pepper, cassava and plantain farms, and heightening fears of food shortages and wider insecurity.
As residents call for urgent intervention from security agencies, the Isoko South Local Government said it would make its position known soon, while the Delta State Police Command stated that it had yet to receive an official report on the matter.
