INYC Seeks Police Investigation over Death of SOS Commander
The Itsekiri National Youth Council (INYC) has raised alarm over the killing of SOS Commander Kunu Liberty in Sapele, Delta State, calling for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. The incident reportedly occurred after Liberty was invited by the Sapele Divisional Police Officer.
In a statement, the council rejected claims that Liberty died during a gunfight between police and vigilante members, arguing that there were no reports of injuries, arrests, or other casualties to support such an account.
INYC President, Comrade Appearance Afejuku, said the council supports lawful security operations but strongly opposes extrajudicial killings, adding that the deaths of Itsekiri youths allegedly linked to security agencies have become increasingly frequent.
The council urged the Inspector-General of Police to set up a high-powered investigative panel to identify those responsible and ensure accountability.
