INEC to Resume Nationwide Voter Registration on August 18
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will commence on August 18, with 811 registration centres set up across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The exercise will begin with an online pre-registration process, followed by in-person registration from August 25. Both options will run concurrently until August 30, 2026. To make the process easier, INEC has introduced an online CVR Live Locator, which will go live on August 17 to help citizens find their nearest registration centre.
A 38-page list of all registration centres, along with state help desk numbers, has been published on the commission’s website. The procedure remains the same as in 2022, with registration available from 9am to 3pm on weekdays, excluding public holidays.
INEC also disclosed that it has received 151 letters of intent from associations seeking recognition as political parties. The commission is currently shortlisting applicants that meet requirements, with further announcements expected after the August 16 bye-elections in 12 states.
