“I’m still in charge,” Eguavoen Makes U-Turn
Super Eagles interim coach, Austin Eguavoen, has refuted media reports claiming he resigned as the head coach of the national team.
In an interview with journalists on Wednesday September 10, Eguavoen clarified that though he was initially given a two-match mandate with the Super Eagles in Rwanda, he remains in charge.
“What people are reading is incorrect; I’m still in charge,” he asserted.
Eguavoen explained that his previous comments were only about meeting with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) leadership upon his return from Rwanda, not about stepping down.
Warri Sentinel had earlier cited a Nations newspaper report suggesting Eguavoen had resigned after leading the national team in two African Cup of Nations matches.
Eguavoen’s appointment as interim coach comes after the NFF’s unsuccessful efforts to hire a permanent head coach for the team.
