Ika Leaders Sets Up Committee for Agbor Fire Victims
In a move to address the aftermath of the devastating tanker explosion at Boji Boji, Agbor, an investigative committee has been established. The committee will be headed by The Anglican Bishop of Ika Diocese, Bishop Godfrey Ifeanyichukwu Ekpenisi.
The explosion, which occurred on January 5, 2025, tragically claimed numerous lives and caused extensive damage to properties.

Alongside Bishop Ekpenisi, key members of the committee include Bishop Festus Udume, former Bishop of Anioma Diocese, Dr. Shedrack Omumu, a retired medical consultant, Vincent Arimoku of the Ika Landlords Association, and Ewere Okonta, a lecturer and Williams Eghebi will serve as the committee’s Secretary.
The newly formed committee will be tasked with investigating the cause of the explosion, identifying and assisting the victims, assessing the damage to lives and properties, and proposing measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Additionally, they will take on any other necessary duties that may arise during the investigation.
Victor Nwokolo, the Honourable Member representing Ika Federal Constituency in the National Assembly expressed his confidence after inaugurating its members, highlighting their integrity and dedication to the welfare of the Agbor community.
In his address, Nwokolo reassured the community that the committee members were selected for their high standards of integrity and commitment to the Ika people. “This is a non-partisan group dedicated to the community’s best interests,” he said.
Williams Eghebi, speaking on behalf of the committee, thanked the community for their trust and vowed to carry out their responsibilities with diligence and urgency.
The Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Hon. Jerry Ehiwarior, also commended the members for their willingness to serve and promised the full support of the council to ensure the success of the committee.
The fire, which resulted from a tanker carrying petroleum products losing control and exploding, left a community in grief. As the committee begins its work, the residents of Agbor are hopeful for a thorough investigation and swift resolution to bring relief to the victims and safeguard against future tragedies.
