I Was Offered N5bn Bribe to Impeach Fubara- Ex-Rivers Chief of Staff
Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has claimed that he was offered N5 billion to help orchestrate the governor’s impeachment.
In an interview on Channels Television on Sunday, March 30, Ehie revealed that he has evidence of the alleged bribe stored on his phone.
He disclosed that the offer came in early October 2023 while he was serving as the majority leader of the Rivers State House of Assembly. “It was for impeachment. It’s here. I have it, and I have printed it and distributed it, in case, in their evil imagination, they decide to attack me. I already have a son and a brother,” he stated.

Ehie also responded to claims made by former Rivers Head of Service, George Nwaeke in a recent press conference, linking him to the burning of the State Assembly complex on October 30, 2023.
Nwaeke had alleged that he witnessed a bag of money being handed over to Ehie at the Government House to execute the operation, though he admitted he did not know the amount inside.
“I had no hand in and was not part of the burning down of the Rivers State House of Assembly,” Ehie said.
The Chief of Staff added that he had instructed his lawyers to file a criminal libel suit against Nwaeke, who, he said, had sought financial assistance from him on the same day he resigned as Head of Service.
