Gunmen Kill 8 NSCDC Officers, Abduct Chinese at BUA Cement in Edo

Gunmen have killed eight members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) during an attack in Edo State, officials say.

The officers were providing security for five Chinese expatriates working at the BUA Cement factory in Okpella when the assailants struck on Friday night. One of the expatriates was abducted, while four others escaped.

Four people were injured in the attack and are being treated in hospital. NSCDC officials confirmed the deaths and said a formal statement would be issued from the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

Security agencies have launched a manhunt, combing surrounding forests for the attackers. The killings came only hours after police rescued 16 passengers abducted on the Benin-Auchi highway, underlining growing concerns about insecurity in the region.
