Governor Oborevwori Accuses BEDC of Withholding Electricity
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has faulted the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) for persistent power outages across Delta communities, accusing the distribution company of failing to deliver electricity supplied by Transcorp Power Plc. He said residents continue to suffer needless hardship despite available energy.
The governor’s concerns were conveyed at Transcorp Power’s vocational graduation ceremony in Ughelli, where he called on both companies to close gaps in their operations. He noted that power is essential for homes, businesses, and the new crop of trainees seeking to establish small enterprises.
Transcorp Power’s MD/CEO, Peter Ikenga, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting its host communities. He pointed to more than a decade of targeted interventions aimed at improving education, infrastructure, and economic opportunities.
Ikenga cited several recent projects, including transformer rehabilitation, extended network lines, provision of school furniture, and modern ICT equipment to boost digital learning. He added that the initiatives aim to strengthen local capacity and prepare youths for technology-driven careers.
