Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello Surrenders To EFCC Over Corruption Allegations
Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has surrendered to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following allegations of money laundering and corruption involving N80.2 billion.
Bello, who had previously been declared wanted by the EFCC, stated that he respects the rule of law.
In a statement from his media office on September 18, he explained that his decision to engage with the EFCC followed consultations with his family, legal team, and political allies.
The statement emphasized that Bello sought to uphold his fundamental human rights while ensuring due process. “The case has been before a competent court, with Alhaji Yahaya Bello represented by his legal team at every hearing. It is essential for the former Governor to now engage with the EFCC to clear his name, as he has nothing to hide,” it read.
Bello expressed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to combat corruption and promote economic development in Nigeria.
Accompanied by several prominent Nigerians, Bello attended the EFCC headquarters, where he hopes the agency will conduct its investigations with respect for his rights.
Further details regarding his engagement with the EFCC are expected to be released in due course.
