Former Delta Commissioner Raises Alarm Over Repeated Herdsmen Attacks on Farmland

Former Delta State Commissioner, Patrick Muoboghare, has raised concern over repeated invasions of his farmland in Edjekota-Ogor, Ughelli North Local Government Area, allegedly by suspected herdsmen. He made the complaint in a petition to the Divisional Police Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Ughelli Division.

Muoboghare, a retired lecturer of Delta State University, Abraka, said he has farmed the community for over 20 years, but sustained attacks have continued to wipe out his investments. He listed affected crops to include cocoa, coffee, cotton, cassava, maize and beans, noting that the losses have persisted over time.

He also cited a recent incident that reportedly occurred between April 10 and April 14, 2026, when cattle allegedly invaded and destroyed large portions of his farmland. According to him, several acres of sweet potatoes, beans and cotton were affected during the episode.

Muoboghare called for urgent intervention, warning that the recurring attacks and lack of arrests could heighten tension across farming communities in Ughelli North, including Ogor, Uwheru, Evwreni, Agbarho, Orogun and Agbarha.
