FG Says Non-Oil Revenue Now Makes Up 75% of Nigeria’s Income

Nigeria has generated ₦20.59 trillion in non-oil revenue between January and August 2025,  a 40.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The Presidency says the growth follows ongoing fiscal reforms, improved tax compliance, and the expansion of digital revenue systems.

Speaking in Abuja during a meeting with the Buhari Organisation, President Bola Tinubu noted that non-oil income now makes up 75% of total government collections. He also stated that since early 2025, the Federal Government has not borrowed from local banks, reflecting improved financial management.

The President said the surge in revenue has enabled monthly allocations to states and local governments to reach record levels, with disbursements exceeding ₦2 trillion in July. These funds are being channelled into agriculture, infrastructure, and public services across the country.

While oil-based revenues remain under pressure due to falling crude prices, President Tinubu said Nigeria’s economic structure is shifting. He emphasised that the focus now is on ensuring these gains translate into better living conditions, including food security, jobs, education, and healthcare.
