FG Issues Flood Alert For Delta, Nine Other States

The Federal Government has raised concerns over possible flooding in parts of the country as heavy rainfall is forecast between April 8 and April 12, 2026.

In a flood alert issued by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, at least 10 states were identified as areas where intense rainfall could lead to flooding within the period.

The states include Ebonyi, Anambra, Ogun, Taraba, Cross River, Benue, Imo, Delta, Rivers, and Abia. Communities highlighted as vulnerable include Afikpo and Nkalagu in Ebonyi; Atani, Iyowa Odekpe, Odekpe, and Onitsha in Anambra; and Ayetoro and Ilaro in Ogun. Others are Donga, Kwata Kanawa, Lau, Serti, Takum, and Yorro in Taraba, as well as Edor, Ikom, and Itigidi in Cross River State.

Additional locations listed in the warning are Igumale in Benue State, Nworievbi, Okigwe, Otoko, and Owerri in Imo State, Oko Anara in Delta State, Port Harcourt in Rivers State, and Umuahia in Abia State. Residents in the affected areas have been advised to remain alert, clear drainage channels, and take precautionary measures to minimise the impact of potential flooding.
