The Federal Ministry of Education has called on Nigerians to ignore false reports circulating online about the cancellation of the 2025 WAEC exams due to allegations of widespread malpractice.
In a statement released on Sunday in Abuja, Folasade Boriowo, the Director of Press at the Ministry, clarified the situation and dismissed the rumors.
“The Ministry wishes to categorically disassociate itself from this fake news and clarify the following:
“The 2025 WAEC Examinations have been successfully concluded, with only a few isolated incidents of malpractice reported, all of which were promptly addressed by the relevant authorities.
Boriowo also noted that the ongoing NECO exams are proceeding without any disruptions, and, at the time of the statement, no malpractice reports have been made.
She explained that the Ministry had not received any official reports or communication from WAEC, NECO, or any other exam body about widespread cheating or other irregularities in the exams.
The Ministry has urged students, parents, school administrators, and the general public to disregard the fake press release that is currently in circulation. Boriowo emphasized that the report is completely false and was created to cause unnecessary panic.
The Ministry also advised everyone to seek information only from trusted and verified sources, including the official websites of the Federal Ministry of Education (www.education.gov.ng), WAEC (www.waecnigeria.org), and NECO (www.neco.gov.ng).
The Ministry reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of all public examinations and promised to continue collaborating with examination bodies to strengthen monitoring and enforcement mechanisms.
Boriowo also warned that anyone found spreading false information would be handed over to the appropriate authorities for investigation and prosecution.
