FCCPC Disowns Viral Warri Education Posters

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has disowned viral posters circulating online and in parts of Delta State that falsely link the agency to a campaign by the “Warri Centre for Communities Law (WCLC).” The posters, which bore the FCCPC logo and promoted claims about compulsory free basic education in Delta State, were described by the Commission as fraudulent and misleading.

In a statement on its social media, the FCCPC stressed that the materials were unauthorized, urging the public to ignore them. The agency emphasized that the use of its logo or name without permission constitutes impersonation and misrepresentation, acts that violate federal regulations and undermine public trust.

The viral posters encouraged parents not to pay “fake school fees” and offered “free legal advice,” raising concerns about potential exploitation of unsuspecting citizens. The FCCPC clarified that it has no affiliation with the Warri-based group and has not endorsed any of the claims circulating online.

The Commission urged Nigerians to rely solely on verified FCCPC channels for information or to lodge consumer-related complaints. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumers from false information and warned that deceptive practices may be subject to investigation and legal action.
