Environmental Marshals Arrested for Illegal Extortion in Delta
The Delta State Environmental Taskforce has arrested four marshals accused of extorting residents during night operations in Asaba, Oshimili South Local Government Area.
The suspects were caught along Summit Road by a monitoring team led by Chief Agbari, who alerted the Supervisory Officer on Environment, Comrade Adim Dikedi. On receiving the report, Dikedi ordered their immediate detention at a police station.
Investigations revealed that one of the arrested marshals was impersonating Dikedi, further raising concerns about corruption within the enforcement ranks.
Dikedi reaffirmed his commitment to rooting out misconduct, stressing that environmental officers are prohibited from operating beyond 4:00 pm. He said the crackdown was necessary to restore public confidence in environmental enforcement.
