DESOPADEC Hosts KOSOPADEC, Commends Oborevwori’s Push for Collaboration

The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) hosted the Board and Management of the Kogi State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (KOSOPADEC) in Warri on Wednesday, strengthening Delta’s growing status as a hub for institutional learning among oil-producing states. DESOPADEC Chairman, Chief Barr. John Nani, attributed the development to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to building structures that encourage transparent collaboration and knowledge sharing.

During the strategic engagement, Nani outlined the commission’s inclusive governance framework, noting that its leadership rotates among the six ethnic nationalities in Delta’s oil-producing mandate areas. He also explained that project priorities are determined through extensive community consultations, while revenue distribution is based on the volume of oil output across the 21 producing local government areas.

Nani further pointed out that DESOPADEC draws its funding from 50 percent of the state’s 13 percent oil derivation allocation, a formula he said enables equitable development and sustained grassroots impact. Other members of the DESOPADEC management team urged the visitors to interface with the commission’s directorates to gain a fuller understanding of its operational model, adding that delegations from other states have also come to understudy Delta’s system.

KOSOPADEC Chairman, Mr. Suleiman Ndarayi Abdullahi, expressed gratitude for the reception and affirmed that his team arrived with a clear intention to learn from Delta State’s successful approach to oil-producing area development.
