Effurun High Court Discharges Two Minors in Rape Case

High Court 2 sitting in Effurun, Delta State, has discharged two minors previously accused of rape, citing the failure of the Nigerian Police Force, Warri Area Command, to effectively prosecute the case.

The boys were first arraigned on December 9, 2025, via a motion ex parte filed by the police. On the same day, the court admitted them to bail after defence counsel raised objections anchored on provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) of Delta State and the Child Rights Law.

Counsel to the defendants, Agba Abraham, disclosed that the matter was struck out on April 21, 2026, following the prosecution’s inability to diligently pursue the case.

The ruling effectively brings the case to a close, with the minors now discharged and no longer facing charges.
