EFCC Detains El-Rufai Over Alleged ₦432bn Probe
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has detained former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai following hours of interrogation at its headquarters in Abuja. He arrived around 10 a.m. on Monday in response to an invitation and remained in custody late into the night.
The detention is linked to an alleged ₦432 billion corruption investigation stemming from a 2024 report by the Kaduna State House of Assembly. The report examined loans obtained and contracts awarded between 2015 and 2023, raising concerns about due process and rising state debt during his administration.
Sources within the commission said the probe has been ongoing for about a year and is at an advanced stage. There are also allegations involving the alleged surveillance of former National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu. EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed El-Rufai honored the invitation but declined further comment on possible charges.
