Edo State, FG Set Up Fact-Finding Committee to Probe Uromi Killings
The Federal Government, in collaboration with the Edo State Government, has established a fact-finding committee to investigate the recent killings of 16 Kano-bound travellers in Uromi, Edo State.
Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, made the announcement on Thursday during a meeting with a high-level delegation from Kano State, led by Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo. The meeting took place at the Edo State Government House in Benin City.
Governor Okpebholo expressed that President Bola Tinubu was deeply troubled by the incident, emphasising the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all Nigerians. He said the federal government is determined to make the state and the country safer for citizens and businesses.

“President Tinubu is not happy about what happened in Uromi, and he is committed to ensuring that both the state and the nation remain secure for all to live and work,” Okpebholo said.
The meeting was attended by Edo’s Deputy Governor Hon. Dennis Idahosa, Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, senior security officials, and government representatives from both Edo and Kano states.
Following the meeting, Governor Okpebholo and the Kano delegation visited Uromi to meet with the local Hausa community and gain insights into the incident. The visit aimed to promote peace and understanding between the communities in the area.
The killings, which occurred earlier this week, have sparked widespread concern over security in the region. The victims were reportedly en route to Kano when they were attacked. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have called for calm as they work to resolve the matter.
