Edo Police Arrest Teen for Faking Kidnap, Nab 11 Suspects

The Edo State Police Command has arrested an 18-year-old girl, Obehi Odine, for allegedly staging her own kidnapping and demanding a ₦10 million ransom.

Police spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, confirmed that the suspect confessed to fabricating the incident in an attempt to extort money. She was arrested during an investigation into the reported abduction.

In a separate operation, police working with the military and the Edo State Security Corps stormed a forest hideout in Ubiaja, leading to the arrest of 11 male suspects linked to an organised kidnapping ring.

Security operatives recovered firearms, cutlasses, charms, mobile phones, and cash. Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika warned residents against false distress reports, saying offenders would face prosecution.
