Drain Desilting Exercise Begins in Ughelli North

The Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has commenced a large-scale clearing of drainage channels along sections of the East–West Road (Nigeria) within its jurisdiction as part of efforts to prepare for the rainy season.

The council chairman flagged off the exercise last Saturday during the state’s monthly environmental sanitation exercise, targeting blocked drains and waterways to improve water flow across the area.

The operation caused heavy traffic congestion over the weekend, stretching from Agbarho Bridge to Agbarho Junction as equipment and workers carried out the clearing.

Authorities say the ongoing clean-up is expected to enhance drainage and reduce the risk of flooding in the communities as the rainy season approaches.
