Don’t Turn To Social Media When Reporting Police Officers Misconduct -IGP
The Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has called on Nigerians to avoid using social media to report the conduct of police officers, urging them instead to direct such complaints to the Police Complaints Response Unit (PCRU).
IGP Egbetokun said this at the PPROs/Police Communication Experts’ Conference which held in Asaba, Delta State, on Monday, November 18.
Egbetokun highlighted that relying on social media for such matters can lead to misinformation, which in turn undermines the integrity of the law enforcement agency.
While acknowledging the influence of social media in shaping public opinion, the Inspector General warned that unverified information could lead to false perceptions of the police force.
