Senate Dismisses Danladi Umar as CCT Chairman

The Senate has removed Danladi Umar from his position as Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) over allegations of gross misconduct. The decision was in accordance with Section 157(1) of the 1999 Constitution, which authorizes the Senate to remove public officials after following due process.

The removal followed a closed-door session lasting over 90 minutes, after which the Senate announced that 84 lawmakers, representing a two-thirds majority, supported the motion.

The motion for Umar’s dismissal was introduced by Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, who stressed the crucial role of the CCT in upholding integrity and accountability within the government.

With Umar’s removal, Abdullahi Bello will officially take over as the new Chairman of the Tribunal. The Senate has resolved to forward its decision to President Bola Tinubu for further action.
