Diri Warns Appointees Against Early Campaigning

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri has warned his political appointees not to engage in early political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking at a state executive council meeting in Yenagoa on Wednesday, April 30, Diri said anyone found campaigning before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) releases official guidelines would be removed from office.\

He criticised some individuals for making political statements and “heating up the system” when the focus should be on governance.

“This is not the time for politicking. It is time for serious work,” the governor said. “If you are a political appointee and want to campaign, you must first resign.”

Diri reminded politicians to respect INEC’s timetable and urged the public to focus on meaningful activities until the right time for politics.
