Delta State Leads FAAC Earnings With ₦423.8bn in Eight Months
Delta State emerged as the top earner from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) between January and August 2025, taking in ₦423.85 billion, according to new figures from the National Bureau of Statistics. In the eight-month period, FAAC disbursed a total of ₦4.587 trillion to the 36 states, with Rivers and Akwa Ibom following Delta at ₦388.76 billion and ₦348.62 billion respectively.
The top three states collectively crossed the ₦1 trillion mark, a reflection of their 13% derivation entitlement linked to crude oil production. Bayelsa ranked fourth with ₦306.88 billion, while Lagos—Nigeria’s only non-oil state in the top five—received ₦289.31 billion. Kano placed sixth with ₦195.12 billion.
At the lower end of the table, Ogun received the smallest allocation at ₦110.35 billion, just below Ebonyi, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Taraba. The Federal Capital Territory earned ₦121.85 billion, placing it in the lower half of recipients. Analysts say the data underscores long-standing fiscal imbalances, with many states still heavily reliant on FAAC amid weak internal revenue performance.
The pattern aligns with recent years, even as 2024 allocations exceeded ₦15 trillion on the back of stronger oil receipts and improved tax collection. The widening gap has revived calls for restructuring and fiscal autonomy, while oil-producing states continue to push for stronger action against crude theft. Federal authorities say enhanced surveillance and pipeline protection measures are being rolled out to stabilise revenue flows.
