Agbarho Residents Panic as Maphite–Eiye Feud Turns Deadly

Agbarho in Delta State has slipped into unrest following a violent confrontation between the Maphite and Eiye confraternities that began during the Agbarho Ibi Festival’s watch-night activities. What started as a single attack on Monday night quickly expanded into a series of retaliatory strikes across the community.

Both groups confirmed that the crisis was triggered by an initial blow attributed to Eiye members, even though they acknowledged that there had been no fresh provocation from Maphite before the clash. The fight left several individuals from both sides severely injured, including the Maphite leader in the area, who was rushed to the hospital with deep stab wounds. Images circulating online showed multiple victims suffering brutal cuts and trauma.

Tensions escalated further on Tuesday when an Eiye member known as Konto died from the injuries he sustained during the confrontation. His death intensified the conflict, with Eiye squads reportedly searching for Maphite targets across several streets. In the unfolding chaos, a young man identified as Jonathan, recently arrived from Warri, was killed by an Eiye group. Local sources and Maphite members maintained that he had no links to either confraternity.

Community figures have begun pushing for a ceasefire, but no firm agreement had been reached as of Wednesday morning. Residents have been urged to exercise caution as both groups remain active and the possibility of renewed attacks continues to generate fear across Agbarho.
