Delta State Govt. Assesses Communities Hit by Ocean Surge
The Delta State Commissioner for Special Duties, Terry Etacherure, has visited several communities along the Benin River in Warri North Local Government Area on Tuesday, September 24, following significant damage caused by an ocean surge, Warri Sentinel has learnt.
Etacherure was joined by community leaders, including Hon. Fred Martins, Member representing Warri North in the State House of Assembly, Warri North LGA Chairman, Hon. Festus Ashima, and officials from the State Emergency Management Agency to assess the impact of the natural disaster.
During the visit, Etacherure offered his condolences to the affected residents and stressed the government’s commitment, under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, to providing support. He noted that the governor had specifically requested the visit to demonstrate solidarity with the community.
The ocean surge, which began on September 19, 2024, caused severe flooding, creating new pathways through the affected areas and forcing residents to evacuate their homes.
