Illegal Structures Demolished as Delta Task Force Begins Clean-Up
The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), in collaboration with the state’s Task Force on Environment, has commenced a major clean-up operation along the Benin/Onitsha Expressway, targeting illegally parked trucks and makeshift structures.
The clean-up is part of broader efforts to improve environmental standards and traffic flow in the capital, Asaba.
The operation, which began this week, covers the busy stretch from the Customs checkpoint to the Head Bridge. Chief Patrick Ukah, Director General of the DSCTDA, and Task Force Chairman Olorogun Godspower Asiuwhu oversaw the peaceful execution of the exercise.
Addressing newsmen, Mr. Asiuwhu explained that the operation followed repeated warnings to owners of the structures and trucks, which had contributed to environmental degradation and traffic bottlenecks along the route.
“This is part of the government’s broader MORE AGENDA, aimed at ensuring a cleaner and more organized Delta State,” Asiuwhu said. “The illegal structures and indiscriminate parking have been a concern, and we are fully committed to addressing these issues.”
He added that the state government is fully backing the clean-up efforts, which are expected to improve the overall quality of life in the area and ensure smoother vehicular movement. Authorities have urged residents and business owners to comply with regulations, as the state continues to prioritize cleanliness and public order.
