Delta Ports Need Urgent Action, Oborevwori Tells NPA Board

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has called on the Federal Government to reopen the seaports in Warri, Koko, Sapele, and Burutu, citing their potential to support economic recovery and boost national revenue.

He made the appeal during a meeting with the Board of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), led by its chairman, Senator Adedayo Adeleye. The governor also requested the dredging of the Warri Channel and repairs to port infrastructure.

Governor Oborevwori said Delta State is working with the Federal Government on critical infrastructure projects, including sections of the Benin–Asaba Highway and the Sapele–Warri Road. He said improved security and new laws protecting businesses had created a more stable environment for investors.

On his part, Senator Adeleye said the NPA Board has been touring ports across the country to assess operational challenges. He said the Delta ports contribute over 10% of national trade volume and called for greater investment to increase capacity.
