Delta Ports Must Work at Full Capacity – WACCIMA
The Warri Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (WACCIMA) has called on stakeholders in the South-South region to take decisive steps toward ensuring the full operation of Delta State ports.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Warri Correspondents’ Chapel, WACCIMA President Engr. Anthony Okoh said persistent compromises and infrastructure challenges have continued to limit the ports’ contribution to regional growth.
He pointed to failing road networks as a major obstacle, noting that existing routes were not designed to handle the volume of traffic currently associated with port activities. Okoh stressed the need for a functional rail system linking Niger Delta states to major commercial hubs.
The chamber’s president also raised concerns over the lack of engagement between the organised private sector and the Delta State Government, revealing that efforts to meet Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on economic development initiatives have yet to yield results.
Earlier, NUJ Warri Correspondents’ Chapel Chairman, Comrade Okiemute Okpomor, emphasized the role of the media in fostering economic dialogue and pledged continued collaboration with WACCIMA.
