Delta Police to Enforce ₦50,000 Fine for Indecent Dressing

The Delta State Police Command has announced that anyone caught wearing indecent clothing risks penalties under the state’s Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Law.

In a message posted on their official X page, the police warned that offenders could face a fine of up to ₦50,000 or be ordered to perform community service.

The post emphasized that the state government does not tolerate clothing that reveals too much skin in public places such as workplaces or schools.

The VAPP law, initially enacted nationally in 2015 and adopted by Delta State in 2020, seeks to protect individuals from various forms of abuse and violence.

Specifically, Section 29 of the law prohibits indecent exposure defined as the intentional public display of private body parts. Conviction under this section may lead to fines, community service, or both.

Beyond indecent dressing, the law also targets harmful practices including female genital mutilation, abusive widowhood customs, physical assault, and neglect of dependents.

Authorities have urged the public to adhere to the law to avoid prosecution and contribute to a safer community.
