Delta Police Step Up Traffic Checks, Warn Offenders

The Delta State Police Command has announced an immediate crackdown on traffic violations across the state, warning that offenders will face swift prosecution through newly activated mobile courts. The initiative follows official confirmation from the Delta State Judiciary that designated Mobile Courts are now operational in multiple jurisdictions, empowering law enforcement to summarily try traffic offenders and other violators in line with existing laws.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, said the command will intensify surveillance, patrols, and enforcement operations on major roads and urban centres, including Asaba, Warri, Effurun, Sapele, Ughelli, and Agbor. He listed targeted offences such as reckless driving, driving against traffic, the use of unauthorised number plates, driving without registration, and the illegal use of sirens and revolving lights, among others, as key areas of focus.

SP Bright emphasised that there will be zero tolerance for traffic indiscipline, obstruction of officers, or attempts to evade lawful arrest. He urged the public to comply with traffic regulations, warning that violators will be arrested and prosecuted before the newly established mobile courts.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to restoring order, enhancing road safety, and protecting lives and property. Under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola, the Delta State Police assured law-abiding residents of their safety while warning that traffic offenders will face the full weight of the law.
