FGC Warri Alumni Rally Support for ₦3bn STEM Initiative

The Global President of the Federal Government College Warri Old Students’ Association (FEGOCOWOSA), Dr. Godwin Alo, has reaffirmed the association’s support for the school’s STEM initiative. Speaking at a public lecture in Abuja, he described the project as a key part of the school’s 60th-anniversary celebrations and revealed plans to establish a technology centre, sports complex, and endowment fund for talented students.

Dr. Alo noted that the programme aligns with the school’s vision of equipping students with 21st-century skills and called on the government to prioritise security to preserve the school’s unity. He also announced that FEGOCOWOSA has launched a ₦3 billion legacy fund and plans to collaborate with international bodies and NGOs to ensure the initiative’s sustainability.

In his keynote address, Emeritus Professor Olugbemiro Jegede stressed the need for Nigeria to invest in teacher training and digital literacy. He warned that a global survey projects only 30 countries will have enough secondary school teachers by 2030, and Nigeria is not among them, urging urgent reform in the education sector.

Professor Jegede cited countries like New Zealand, Finland, and Rwanda as examples of progress in education and called for a holistic approach involving the right people, policies, and resources. He emphasised that equipping students with relevant skills is essential for Nigeria’s future development.
