Delta Health Insurance Enrolment Hits 2.7 Million Under Oborevwori

The Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC) has recorded a major boost in health insurance coverage, with enrolment rising from about 1.3 million to 2,783,045 beneficiaries since the commencement of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.

Director-General of the Commission, Dr. Isaac Akpoveta, disclosed this during a media briefing where he highlighted reforms and operational milestones achieved by the agency. He credited the progress to sustained government support, noting that Delta State currently leads the country in health insurance enrolment. He also revealed that beneficiaries can access care in accredited hospitals outside the state.

Akpoveta said service delivery has improved through the deployment of over 300 quality monitors and the introduction of a comprehensive electronic platform, Rob SE, which enables transparent claims processing and prompt payments to healthcare providers. Dedicated health insurance units have also been established in hospitals to ease access for enrollees.

He added that pregnant women and newborns benefit from free healthcare services under the scheme, while vulnerable groups are covered through the equity plan funded largely by the state government. Although funding remains a challenge, the Commission is expanding enrolment in rural areas and has called on corporate bodies and development partners to support efforts toward universal health coverage.
