Delta Govt Slashes Dialysis Fees, Eases Burden on Patients

The Delta State Government has announced a reduction in the cost of dialysis in public hospitals from over N70,000 to N45,000. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori approved the procurement of eight new dialyzers to support patients battling kidney-related illnesses.

Onojaeme also highlighted recent acquisitions of MRI and CT scan machines, which he said will save residents the stress of travelling long distances for diagnostic services. He warned hospital staff against sharp practices, stating that those found culpable would face strict sanctions.

The Commissioner revealed that more than 150 Primary Health Centres across the state are undergoing renovation, while government hospitals have been granted approval to retain all their internally generated revenue for operations. Free maternal healthcare, he added, has significantly reduced maternal mortality rates.

Onojaeme commended Governor Oborevwori for being the first state leader to pay the Medical Residency Fund, earning him recognition from the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors. He assured residents that the administration remains committed to accessible and affordable healthcare.
