Corps Members To Receive N77,000 Allowance

The Federal Government has announced a significant increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, raising it from N33,000 to N77,000—an increase of 133%, Warri Sentinel understands.

The decision follows the passage of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, which aims to improve the welfare of corps members.

This approval was confirmed in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, signed by Chairman Ekpo Nta.

Caroline Embu, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations for NYSC, noted that the Director-General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, had previously advocated for a more comprehensive welfare package during a visit to the Commission.

In the statement released on September 25, Embu expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the timely gesture, highlighting that the increased allowance is intended to bring “needed succour to the Corps Members, but also boost their morale and motivate them to do even more, in their service to the nation.”

Prior to this increase, the monthly allowance for Corps Members was Thirty-Three Thousand Naira (N33,000).”

This new allowance will take effect from July 2024.
